I am a Certified Restorative Exercise Specialist and also a fully qualified Pilates matwork teacher with The Pilates Foundation. I am a keen researcher of natural movement and also strong believer in the importance of preserving functional movement, so that as we age, we can continue to carry out our many varied daily tasks with ease.

My classes can help:

  • Improve the way you sit stand and move.

  • This can have a positive effect on bone density and can also reduce wear and tear on the joints and ligaments.

  • They can give you confidence in the way you move.

  • Help develop movement skills that perhaps you didn’t even know you were missing.

  • Enable you to build strength and increase flexibility in a safe way.

  • Make you feel good, increasing your energy levels and circulation.

I am particularly interested in the ways in which modern life is impacting the way we move and the adaptations our bodies are making in response to our new behaviours.

We are living in a very different time from our ancestors. A time where technology is changing at a rapid pace. The introduction of labour saving devices may have increased our productivity but it has also reduced our necessity for natural movement. When we purchase a new technology that is designed to save us energy, how many of us will think “how can I replace that energy I just saved”. The very things we think of as improving our lives are leading us down a path of inactivity which in turn is leading us to illness and injury.

Alongside this lack of movement, our love of chairs and screens is keeping us in fixed and repetitive positions for longer periods than our bodies can cope with. The result is that many of us have become stiff, immobile and unable to move all of our body parts as our tissues have adapted to these more sedentary behaviours.

We know we need to stay fit, but it’s often hard to figure out how to get movement into our busy lives. We turn to exercise, but this is often in very repetitive ways, and therefore we don’t get the benefit of moving all of our parts. We know that exercise is good for us but our relationship with exercise is complicated.

But what if exercise alone wasn’t the answer? What if moving more was the key, and not just moving more but also moving more of you.
